In the UK a young person runs away from home every 5 minutes.
Generally, young people run away to try to escape their problems, for example, trouble with the police, violence in the family, problems at school and abuse. We have a dedicated runaway’s service, offering Return Home Interviews (RHI’s) to young people across Norfolk on their return home. RHI’s involve an informal chat with a young person to establish the reasons they went missing, identify any support that may be needed and to minimise the risk of them going missing again. An RHI can be a very positive experience for a young person who is experiencing difficulties as it provides support and a listening ear from someone that does not represent authority, such as the Police or Children’s Services.
