LGBT+ History month

LGBT+ History month

LGBT+ History Month : Claiming our past – Celebrating our present – Creating our future. LGBT+ History Month is for everyone; whether you work in education, a museum, library or art gallery, a business, a service, are a member of a network/social group or an individual. It is celebrated every February across the UK, was founded in 2004 by Schools OUT co-chairs, Paul Patrick & Professor Emeritus Sue Sanders, and was first celebrated in February 2005.

A warm welcome to….

.... Emily Hamilton, student social worker, who joins us today, on placement from UEA for the next few weeks. We look forward to working with her.

True Friends of The Magdalene Group

True Friends of The Magdalene Group

A nice lunch with the trustees today - to mark the occasion of the retirement of two long-serving & loyal colleagues. Janice Hulett & Nick Miller have been staunch supporters of The Magdalene Group, with over 25 years service between them. Presentations were made to recognise their commitment and dedication; it was a sad - but very fond - farewell. THANK YOU BOTH SO MUCH!

Conflict Management training

A full day's conflict management training today with tutor, James McCullough. of Broadland District Council; the objectives of the course : enabling an understanding of the causes of conflict; exploration of communication techniques to prevent conflict escalating; identification of our own styles of conflict management (this topic probably raised most lively discussion!) & finally an understanding of what makes people aggressive & how we can respond to this. Feedback from my colleagues follows.

Domestic Abuse Provider Event

Beth & Natalie, two of our Doorway Women's Service practitioners, attended; here's some interesting feedback : * NCLS; Norfolk Community Law Service have a new initiative called Family and Domestic abuse service - support with protective injunctions, child arrangements, home office applications, form filling for court and a free help line service. * Mapping of domestic abuse services across England and Wales found victims generally wanted counselling, therapeutic services and mental health support. * East of England were found to have the highest percentage of services that could not meet the demand for domestic abuse, with a percentage of -21%.

Fire Safety training

A morning's fire warden training with my colleagues Lauren & Natalie; we joined with The King's Centre team for a session run by Phillip Leeder of Anglia Fire Assessments; 'prevention, prevention, prevention' being key. Sobering fire-related facts & figures; thought-provoking videos; alongside physical fire-extinguisher handling & fire-fighting out in the car park; all resulted in a worthwhile morning.

ENOUGH

No-one should live in fear of abuse. Let's all be part of the change. Everyone can do something to challenge the abuse of women and girls. https://enough.campaign.gov.uk/?utm_campaign=Enough&utm_medium=Search&utm_source=Bing&utm_content=Brand-EM
