Sessions for Professionals

Once every three months we hold sessions for professionals from other agencies. These sessions are hosted by a member of the team, they usually last about an hour and are a great opportunity to share our work, experiences and new developments. There are a couple of spaces available on the next session, which takes place on Wednesday 18th December. Please call the office on 01603 610256 for more information and/or to book a place.

Love Norwich Christmas Hamper Appeal

Love Norwich Christmas Hamper Appeal meets a very real and current need for people in Norwich. Food poverty is a huge problem in our city and the hamper appeal aims to relieve some of this stress and help families in need over the Christmas period. Love Norwich provides hampers for some of our service-users; in turn we support Love Norwich with donations/contributions. Please contact us on support@magdalenegroup.org if you would like more information and/or would like to help provide Christmas dinner in a box... with love. Thank you.

Wednesday 30th October: Sexual Health & HIV: Contemporary issues for hard to engage and vulnerable communities.

"Last week I attended an excellent conference arranged by Public Health on Sexual Health and HIV. We began with an excellent overview by Lynsey Emmett plotting the rise and falls of sexual health trends in recent years and how this intersects with race, gender, ethnicity, age, deprivation and many other complicating factors. What’s important to note is the increase in cases of syphilis and gonorrhoea – particularly given the challenges around treating gonorrhoea as it becomes increasingly resistant to antibiotics. Professor Emma Bond and Professor Andy Phippen also gave a very interesting talk around sexting, pornography and image-based abuse and the balance between vulnerabilities and the right to protection and participation. This was particularly interesting given the work the ROSE project do around sexting – it certainly gave us a lot to think about how we move forward and adapt our work in the age of digital media. In the afternoon we took part in two workshops. Firstly a workshop delivered by Terrence Higgins Trust around condom distribution to hard-to-reach groups – we discussed how Doorway work around sexual health and safety in an outreach model and had a really interesting discussion around language and the concerns we have around using ‘vulnerable’ or ‘hard-to-engage’. Finally we listened to Make A Change’s workshop on sexual exploitation – was good to see the similarities to ROSE work being done in Suffolk.” Abbie Haines, Outreach Worker

“The Rose Project took two of our young people out for an activity day on Friday 25th October; we started the day by travelling to Wells-Next-The-Sea in North Norfolk to go Alpaca Trekking. The alpacas were (mostly) well-behaved, and the girls even plucked up the courage to feed them apple slices and bread at the end of the walk. We then set off for the Beach Café and enjoyed a well-deserved hot drink before lunch. This day was part of the Listening Fund, so we took several activities with us to get the girls’ feedback on the Rose Project service. The girls gave a lot of thoughtful feedback, and we will be sure to take what they told us and use it to inform our service going forward. We finished the day by recognising the upcoming White Ribbon Day on 25th November, colouring in our own white ribbons with what we would want to say to someone who has committed violence against women. Overall, it was a fantastic day and some of us are already planning a return trip to visit our new fluffy friends!” Jess Hubbard, Outreach Worker, & Becky Bentley, CSE Practitioner.
