Carrie’s Outreach & HARP, Southend

Imogen, one of our Women's Specialist Practitioners, visited two projects in Southend, each supporting vulnerable women. Carrie's Outreach, who are instrumental in the safeguarding forum and other multi-agency meetings for women who sell sex in Southend, working collaboratively to ensure that women get the support in a way that is suitable to their needs. "Thank you so much for having me. I loved having a look around your service, the relationships built between staff and clients was so lovely to see. You are doing such incredible work and it was truly inspiring!" & HARP, the local charity aiming to End Rough Sleeping in Southend-on-Sea, helping local people overcome homelessness for good. "Thank you for having me! I really appreciate the insight you gave me into HARP. Your focus on clients is so evident and everyone I met was so helpful and clearly cared so much for their service users." Imogen Sagon, Doorway Women's Service

Norfolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) joined The Magdalene Group on last Monday's walk through the city to raise awareness of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) in the county and beyond. PCC Giles Orpen-Smellie was keen to walk with Suzi & the team as VAWG is one of his priorities in his new Police, Crime and Community Safety Plan. “It was a pleasure to take part in such a worthy event, not only to get to know those involved in the charity and hear about their vital work, but to help spread the message that violence against women and girls will not be tolerated in Norfolk,” said Giles.

Volunteers’ Week 1st-7th June

Volunteers’ Week 1st-7th June

A time to say thanks! Volunteers' Week is an annual celebration of the contribution millions of people make across the UK through volunteering. Over the years we have been supported by some wonderful volunteers & we are of course hugely grateful. It is timely that we are finally able to welcome back volunteers to join us in our work & we are currently recruiting. Do get in touch if you're interested and/or would like to attend a presentation evening on 13th June. Volunteers include trustees and it goes without saying that our lovely trustees are included in our thanks for their advice and guidance and unwavering support. Thank you!!

International Sex Workers’ Day

International Sex Workers' Day was celebrated on 2nd June. This day is routed in activism for improved working conditions of sex workers. Today, our Doorway Women's Service still campaigns to break down barriers to services to ensure better treatment to those that sell sex. #endthestigma
