International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers : 17th December, 2023

Ahead of the weekend.....This day was created to call attention to hate crimes committed against sex workers all over the world. Inaugurated by Dr. Annie Sprinkle and started by the Sex Workers Outreach Project USA, the first annual day was in 2003 and was held as a memorial and vigil for the victims of the Green River Killer in Seattle, Washington. International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers has empowered workers from cities around the world to come together and organise against discrimination and remember victims of violence. Evolve Workplace Wellbeing Networking Workshop

I attended the most recent of these networking workshops, which are facilitated specifically for Norfolk VCSEs, by Dr Helen Fitzhugh of the UEA Evolve Workplace Wellbeing research team. Each session explores a section of the Evolve Toolkit, today's being The Importance of Dialogue - listening to employees and involving them in decision-making. We were only a small online group today, but that afforded more opportunity for useful discussion. Thanks to Voluntary Norfolk for arranging.

Swan Project

Jade & Lauren, representing the The Jigsaw Project, attended Fridays Open Access at The Swan Youth Project, Downham Market, to talk about relationships/consent and so much more. There were some brilliant conversations with the young people, who had some great stuff to say. Well done to all involved! Read more about them https://www.swanyouthproject.org/

Breakfast Club

Our staff meeting this morning was preceded by our new wellbeing breakfast club initiative. Natalie, our wellbeing champion, encouraged the team to share their individual stress busters & mental health coping strategies; which ranged from the expected - walking in the fresh air & great outdoors - to the less conventional i.e. housework to the sound of ACDC! Nice breakfast; nice start to the day.

Redecoration programme

As our interior redecoration programme comes to an end, we would like to give a big shout out to Roxy, who has done such a good job for us, & always with a willing smile. We would thoroughly recommend her work; you can find her at : www.facebook.com/HomeSweetHomeNorwich

The Bishop’s visit

We were delighted to welcome the Right Reverend Dr Jane Steen, Bishop of Lynn, to The Magdalene Group last week. She met with Sara, along with Georgie & Caroline, two of our trustees, & was interested to hear about our frontline work with vulnerable women & young people, both in Norwich & the wider county. "I wanted to write to say thank you so much for welcoming me to The Magdalene Group. It was inspiring to hear of all your work, as well as your history and your hopes for the future. I shall remember you in my prayers and hope that our paths cross again. In the meantime, thank you once more." With kind regards, +Jane.
