Working Better Together conference

Two members of staff from the Rose Project (Jess Hubbard and Morwenna Chaffe) attended the Basis Yorkshire ‘Working Better Together’ Conference in Leeds on 19th September 2019. A variety of key note speakers from across the country shared their experiences of working in the field of exploitation, particularly in terms of CSE and CCE.

Tuesday 17th September – Session for Professionals at The Magdalene Group

"We hosted a lively session for professionals this week with people attending from a wide range of services; The Garage, Family Assessment Teams from Dereham and Yarmouth, Norfolk Community Advice Network and The Orchard. We use these sessions to give an overview of our four projects including; the type of support each project offers, referral pathways and ways we can work together to support young people or adult women across Norwich and Norfolk. We always give time for people to ask questions and today we had a lot of good discussion between us around the effects of exploitation and the ways to approach discussion around CSE. Always nice to hear a little from each partner, with any updates they have in regard to their services. Thanks for coming everyone! Next such session takes place from 10 - 11 a.m. on Wednesday 18th December. E-mail vivienne@magdalenegroup.org to book a place." Abbie Haines, Outreach Worker

Sexual Health Week : Relationships, sex and disability : 16th to 22nd September, 2019.

Sexual Health Week : Relationships, sex and disability : 16th to 22nd September, 2019.

We are supporting Brook's Sexual Health Week. The theme this year is Relationships, sex and disability. Brook says: "We know that despite becoming mandatory in 2020, inclusive relationships and sex education in schools remains a taboo subject. Unfortunately, when it comes to sex education and disabilities, there is even greater stigma. Sex and disability simply isn’t talked about enough and this means that lots of young people are missing out on valuable education, information and support."

Safeguarding Missing Children through Return Home Interviews

"Yesterday, Katie from CADS (Children's advice & duty service) & I went to London to take part in Safeguarding Missing Children through Return Home Interviews : a conference arranged and hosted by NWG Exploitation Network on behalf of the ECRC, (English Coalition for Runaway Children.) This free-to-attend conference saw the launch of brand new research and good practice examples in relation to missing responses and return home interviews; the first set of research which has recorded both national and local statistics. Norfolk's information-sharing systems play a big part in helping us to safeguard our children. We are really excited and privileged to be working within Norfolk, thank you everyone." Visit from the High Sheriff of Norfolk

"It was lovely to meet my friend Clare Agnew, the current High Sheriff of Norfolk, at The Magdalene Group this morning. As a volunteer at the Citizens Advice Bureau, she was amazed that she had not heard of us before and encouraged Suzi to go and talk to members. She was really interested in and impressed by the work that Suzi and the team do with the Rose Project, En Route and Doorway, understood the complex issues involved and said that if there was anything we thought she could do to help we only have to ask. A very kind offer and I am sure we will take her up on it!" Georgina Holloway, Chairman of Trustees

"The ROSE team are continuing to deliver Sexual Health drop-ins across Norwich and Norfolk - this week we're at the YMCA to talk to residents about topics such as Contraception, STIs and Healthy Relationships.
