Visit by Norwich Dignitaries

"In Suzi’s absence, I was delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor of Norwich, Councillor Vaughan Thomas with the Lady Mayoress, who was a volunteer with us some time ago. With them came the City Sheriff Dr. Marian Prinsley with Deputy consort Margaret (Poppy) Simons. While we drank coffee and ate delicious cake, the project managers of Doorway Women’s Services (Jonna ) and Young People’s Services (Deb) gave excellent presentations, ably assisted by Abbie. Our guests had many questions which also enabled Stacey and Donna to cover a wide range of subjects and an hour and a half passed incredibly quickly. The Mayor and Sheriff had several comments and ideas, took a lot of notes and were very impressed by everyone, confessing that they had no idea of the breadth of the work we do for women and young people in Norfolk. They asked to be kept in the loop on any further projects we have in mind." Georgina Holloway, Chair of Trustees

Tricky Period

Tricky Period

Homeless women and females on low incomes benefit from services set up to provide free sanitary products at Norwich’s main libraries. The Tricky Period project involves the libraries taking donations of products and handing them out to people who cannot afford them, with no questions asked about proof of eligibility. The Magdalene Group supports this initiative & can provide its service-users with any sanitary products they require.

Let’s Talk. Period.

"On Wednesday 12th February the Rose Team attended the ‘Let’s Talk. Period’ East of England Workshop at OPEN Norwich. This event focused on the issue of Period Poverty affecting young women and girls across the country. Speakers from a broad range of services showcased their work and research, from Brook Sexual Health Services speaking of the outreach work they have done in schools nationwide, to Norfolk’s own The Tricky Period project, providing access to free sanitary products across the county’s libraries. Lastly, we heard from City to Sea, in which we discussed the environmental impact of sanitary products, and the move towards more a sustainable usage of these. We made some useful connections to other services here, which we hope to utilise to provide our young people and clients with the best access to products and education in the future relating to their periods and health." Charlotte Breen, Student Social Worker

Safer Internet Day 2020 : 11th February.

11th February is Safer Internet Day 2020! This year's theme 'Together for a better internet' explores young people's identity online and how the internet shapes how they think of themselves and others. We want Safer Internet Day 2020 to celebrate difference and help us work towards creating a more inclusive internet. #FreeToBe

“Resettlement Fayre – HMP Peterborough.

On Wednesday the Doorway team attended the resettlement fayre in the women’s side of HMP Peterborough. These events are organised so that residents of the prison can wander round and talk to services about what kind of support they can receive whilst in prison and what’s available upon release. Great to talk to other services there and to speak with lots of residents on the day.
