We would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who has supported us this year. We are so grateful for your monetary donations, for smaller gifts of clothing & toiletries, & to those of you - volunteers & trustees - who give the gift of time. All of these contributions make such a huge difference to the work of The Magdalene Group. A sincere thank you to you all, and a very happy Christmas!

Fierce Babe Christmas Market

Fierce Babe Christmas Market

"One of our lovely volunteers, Amber, is one half of the Fierce Babe Norwich Team. They’re primarily a female network but they also run amazing markets with all female makers. This year Amber chose us as her charity of choice and we had a stall set up to raise awareness about Doorway Women’s Service and The Magdalene Group as a whole; we spoke to so many lovely people and had so much interest in volunteering – if you’re interested take a look : https://magdalenegroup.org/volunteer/ We also set up a donation station and loads of people came to donate winter clothing, underwear and tights, hair dye and lots of other goodies – thanks so much! Thanks for having us Amber!” Abbie Haines, Outreach Worker

UEA Presentation

On 21st November, Morwenna Chaffe and Donna Elson were welcomed to UEA to deliver a seminar to second year students on the BA Education degree. The students were enrolled on the Childhood, Youth and Transitions module and this seminar gave them an overview of the picture of Child Sexual Exploitation, with particular focus on signs that indicate a young person may be being exploited and the ways in which this can happen. The students were also given a real case study to analyse in groups and were challenged to come up with an action plan for working with the young person. There were some great suggestions and signposting from the students who had an excellent sense of the long-term interventions needed. One student found the seminar so insightful that that she has since contacted us to enquire about volunteering opportunities to help her gain experience in supporting young people across Norfolk. We wish the students all the best in their degree and hope that they can confidently enter their future careers with a sensitivity to the vulnerabilities that some youth face today.

Tricky Period

Tricky Period

Homeless women and females on low incomes benefit from services set up to provide free sanitary products at Norwich’s main libraries. The Tricky Period project involves the libraries taking donations of products and handing them out to people who cannot afford them, with no questions asked about proof of eligibility. The Magdalene Group supports this initiative & can provide its service-users with any sanitary products they require.
