National Hate Crime Awareness Week 2022

Friday 14th October is the Hate Crime Awareness Week Stall at the Forum - run by Norfolk Constabulary Equality and Inclusion Officer. Colleagues from our Doorway Women's Service will be attending in a more general capacity to promote our service and to show that we support women who have experienced violence due to their gender identity/sexual orientation, race etc. We also have the Kindness Tree that we will bring to share some love and encourage people to add to on the day. #SafePlaceForAll

SHAG week at UEA

Today sees the start of SHAG week at UEA : Sexual Health, Advice and Guidance! Our Doorway team of Lydia & Imogen, joined by Laura from Jigsaw, will be having a stall from 11am-4pm where we will have information and advice around sexual health, sex work, sexual violence and wider gender-based violence. We will be providing sexual health education games, goody bags, condoms, STI home kits and Doorway posters/stickers/business cards. We have also requested a 'safe place' room in case anyone would like to talk to us in a confidential setting.

World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health Day

The World Health Organisation recognises World Mental Health Day on 10 October every year. The theme of 2022's World Mental Health Day, set by the World Federation for Mental Health, is 'Make mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority'. For over 70 years, they have been working to make sure that mental health is treated on a par with physical health. Mental health problems exist in our lives, families, workplaces and communities, impacting everyone. We need to do as much as possible to prevent mental ill-health – as individuals and as a society. World Mental Health Day is also a chance to talk about mental health in general, how we need to look after it, and how important it is to talk about things and get help if you are struggling.

The team took part in a joint workshop this morning, led by Laura & Lydia, & in conjunction with Juels & Fi & others from Norfolk LGBT+ Project. The workshop was designed with the idea of partnership working in future; it was interesting, informative & thought-provoking. You can be sure we came up with lots of ideas about collaborative working!
